Farmers in India have been committing suicide at an alarming rate, because of the India new rural and agricultural projects there is a demand and a debt that is accumulated with some local farmers. Some of their staple crops that they rely on are cotton, rice, and wheat. This allows them to have a means of income if this is somehow disrupted there is a genuine feeling of loss. Recently GMO has been on the rise in that area. This means that they are genetically modified to suit a specific purpose weather that is being able to pay for those high inputs and debt is eventually accumulated. The main reason that the suicides occur is because of crop failure. As stated earlier the crops need to have certain amount of inputs and this is there livelihood but if they don't have these inputs they cant grow these crops. Weather patterns can also affect the crops success or failure. According too studies farm land in india relies on flooding, because of drought Indias crop can fail leading farmers to take their life because of the little to no yields that are produced. The Global market is also a major participant with this because they want a certain amount of cotton or other staple crops. This is a travesty because all these farmers are trying to do is feed their family's.
