Your blog post should report your findings. First, what kind of program is this and where does it fall in terms of the categories in Figure 3.1? Second, what are some possible shortcomings of this kind of aid. Third, what has been your country's experience in this area and does it illustrate or contradict the analysis in this chapter?
A program that has been implimented post Kyoto Protocoll is called reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degreadation. The REDD + programwas implimented in 2007 it impliments things such as preserving the worlds carbon sinks. Companies, communities, individuals are are paid to manage forests. Economic incentives are put forth to discourage forest clearing. Agricuture and timber sectors are important sectors in developing nations. By implimenting this strategy observing nations are able to service paticular holes in the kyoto protocoll by protecting their ecoysystem services. Unfortunately there are some drawbacks to this aid, REDD + doesent address underlying drivers to deforestation to reduce reliance on timber and agricultural commodities. In some cases it is believed that this aid is more about making money than actually solving the problem of deforestation. For Kenya during the 2007 agriculture made up 3.6% of its GDP. Kenya agricultural areas rely heavily on the bush to provide fire wood. As of today Kenya is an observer of the REED program they are currently developing the REED program with an end goal of a 10% increase in tree cover due to intense afforestation. They dont have specific REED + legal framework but are moving toward creating one in order tocomplete its end goal for vision 2030.
