Water scarcity is a problem in some areas within Kenya. Kenya regularly has a dry season and because of this and other factors it causes conflicts. In the Upper Ewaso Ng’iro North Basin in Kenya conflicts have arisen within the past decade due to the competition of water resources. There aren’t enough information being given to people in the area on water management strategies there is no coordination within that area on how to preserve water resources. In addition ill-advised irrigation practices contribute an ongoing problem for downstream dwellers that are affected by the lack of water. There are other areas in Kenya that are affected by water scarcity as well. Sustainable practices are not being upheld as of date because of the dry season ,The Water Evaluation and Planning (WEAP) model was applied to evaluate water resources development based on an equilibrium scenario of the current water demand. But because of thethe high economic value of agriculture sector the upper area was of the Ewaso and other area are given priority and the lower catchments have experienced water crises to an extent previously unknown.
